Include ADST for Cross-curricular Opportunities and Capstone Projects
Description

Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST) is a cross-curricular subject. Through experimentation, hands-on learning, and creation, students develop practical, creative, and innovative problem-solving skills. I introduced many computer concepts, such as computer hardware, operating systems, and computer networks, to middle school students to help them build fundamental knowledge about how computers work. Our secondary students can design cookie stamps using a 3D printer. In biology class, we explain how to use electronics to simulate the longitudinal muscles' movements of a worm with a servo motor. We will weave ADST into more subjects to help students understand how technology works in different areas. Additionally, one of our grade 12 students has developed an algorithm for an Arduino car to automatically navigate through a maze for his capstone project. It is a pleasure to see students use their knowledge to solve real-life problems. We hope to inspire more students to get interested in ADST and prepare for their future challenges.
