I believe it is important that we equip students to respond to complex and multi-faceted ecological crises in a way that is honest, action oriented and hopeful. In order to do this, Christian educators need a strong Biblical foundation for thinking about, and for practicing, creation care. That is the focus of this session. Together we will explore why it matters that God loves his creation and the practical implications of this for Christian education, across the curriculum. Participants will be equipped to help students understand that the gospel is good news for all of creation. We will review the Biblical teaching around Creation and seek to understand the Creator’s perspective on our ecological crises. Participants will also learn to connect Christian practices and attitudes (such as humility, contentedness, gratitude confession, service and study) with the care of creation. They will also gain a deeper appreciation for the wonder and complexity of creation and explore how this relates to our worship of Creator. Throughout the session we will consider a wide range of classroom and outdoor strategies and activities (ex. school gardens, nature studies, and conservation activities) that can be used to share this learning with our students. This session blends an interactive presentation of key concepts with opportunities for reflection and discussion. A Bible or a Bible app would probably be useful for this session. Session content and resource material will be shared with participants, along with ideas and strategies that are generated during the session. By the end of the session participants will be able to: Appreciate that the gospel is good news for all creation, and the significance of this for Christian education across the curriculum. Integrate a Biblical understanding of ecological issues and creation care into our teaching practices, Develop lessons and learning activities that foster a deeper love for Creator and his good creation.
